#I’m crying about this #BECAUSE THESE ARE THE SHOES GANYA’S WIFE HAD #this is such a small detail but it makes my soul sob violently #because she actually bought THE EXACT SAME SHOES that the headgirl of the group of these fancy women had #because she didn’t feel like a part of this group from the very beginning #not when she was observing them in the restaurant and realised they were all sitting pretty #not when she was walking with them and everything was awkward and not how it was supposed to be #BUT SHE BOUGHT THE SHOES ANYWAY #because she wanted to be their friend so much #she wanted to feel like one of them #AND LOOK AT HER FACE LOOK HOW FUCKING PROUD SHE IS OF HAVING THOSE SHOES #look at her little confident smile that says ‘Yeah now I’m good. Now I can be one of them. Now they will accept me. #SHE WANTED THIS SO MUCH #if this doesn’t break your heart I don’t know what else to say
Be right back, gonna cry for the rest of my life.
If you guys don’t know Janelle Monae by now, you should. She is seriously, seriously, all kinds of amazing.
This is a cold war. Do you know what your fighting for?
Comment from songmeanings that I liked:
“I think this song speaks to the experience of being an outsider, especially being part of a minority group. The lines “When you step outside/You spend life fighting for your sanity” and “If you wanna be free/Below the ground’s the only place to be” speaks to trying to live your life as who you are, as a kind of resistance. I think cold war is a metaphor for the subtlety and pervasiveness of the messages and power structures that tell groups of people that there is something wrong with them. The cold war was long and unique in that there was not a lot of direct conflict between the two main antagonists. It was mostly carried out through covert means which is a great metaphor for the class/culture/race conflicts that happen in this country. They are not always obvious but they are devastatingly painful for the people who live with the brunt of it, as Monae’s music video heartbreakingly portrays.” ShoshiRosie
Cold War - Janelle Monae
Always more Monae. Always always.
“Monáe told Rap-Up.com that her tears were spontaneous and triggered a chain reaction. “I remember crying during ‘Cold War’ [on the] first take,” she said. “I didn’t know how that happened but it just did. I was very moved by that. It was really a special moment; then everybody else started to cry.”
She offered further insight into the Wendy Morgan-directed clip. “‘Cold War’ reveals what the ArchAndroid looks like,” she stated. “[The video] deals with a psychosis—you’re in my mind and you get a chance to understand Metropolis, where it all stemmed [from] and my thoughts. It’s very psychedelic and trippy.”
Tweet about this: ““When I shot “cold war” i started to feel an uncontrollable emotion take over. Felt like I was crying for so many… Indescribable.”
I might not stop. I thought this one was interesting, in light of all the Miley/Sinead stuff going on too. This is the real deal.
